This legionnaire was the final project for my Figure Drawing class. Again, I went with creating the entire scene around the figure which makes it so much more fun! This was a tough one to get going; The trees looked like a cave opening for a long time and I wasn't happy with how this, being so out of place, distracted from the rest of the scene. It wasn't until I decided to render the tree bark that it started to come together; What discouraged me at first, the trees became my favorite part of the project.

I figure this guy is one of the first leaving the tree line in a second assault. Yes, it's a little strange that he's going into battle with little clothing, not even shoes; Somehow that doesn't take away from the emersion though—I think I have the movie 300 to thank for that.
